August 1975.Crazy Joe Lioti calls me up,tells me hes got a big money run tonight,in the bag.1 AM,Clearview Expressway,Im there.Joes 64 Polara 426 wedge against an unknown 62 vette from Staten Island.Ace shoe Loose Phil on the pushbuttons;the vettes a 4 speed.426 wedge against 327,but the mopars much heavier...Big vs small...Mopar vs Chevy...Staten island vs Long...the Dodge pulls like a freight train up top...if Loose can just leave with and stick around thru 1st and 2nd...Im in $200...Clean start.Vette out 1 car thru 1st but we re closing fast....Half track nose to nose...Im counting my money...Dodge nosedives.Vette walks...wins by 5 cars,going away...run over to Loose...herb cloud in the car...red eyes...cheesy grin...."I punched Defrost "....fool mixed up the heater controls with the tranny pushbuttons,never made it out of 2nd gear...with a torqueflite...with 4.56s...can you say overrev? Phil drives a schoolbus now. Stickshift. Joe has a tranny shop...true...
